Balasore: For the second consecutive day, Trishul, India's most sophisticated short-range missile, was
successfully test-fired from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, about 15 km from Balasore,
on June 23.
Indigenously developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the surface-
to-air missile was test-fired from a mobile launcher at around 17:15 hours (IST).
A micro-light aircraft was flown as the target which the missile was supposed to hit, Defence sources
said.
The solid fuel propelled missile has a triple battlefield role for the Army, Air Force and Navy and has a
range of 500 metres-to-9 km with the capacity of carrying a 15 kg warhead.
The June 23 trial was part of the continuing effort to gauge its accuracy and other parameters, they
said.
Trishul, which formed a part of India's Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP), is about three
metres in length and 200 cm in diametre and flies at supersonic speed, the sources said.
