Vajpayee calls on Military Commission chairman

Beijing: Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on June 24 began the second day of his official engagements in China with a call on the country's top leader and chairman of the powerful Central Military Commission Jiang Zemin.

The Indian leader drove to the Yuquan Shan Mountain resort, 40 km from Beijing, for the meeting that focusses on bilateral relations, international and regional issues of common concern.

Vajpayee is scheduled to meet some other Chinese leaders and give a speech on India-China economic cooperation on June 24. The Prime Minister will visit the Forbidden City as well.

The PM arrived on June 22 for a six-day official visit to China as guest of Premier Wen Jiabao.

It is the first visit to China by an Indian Prime Minister in the last decade.
