SETS to launch Web Guard security in August
Tuesday, June 24 2003 05:51 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: Society for Electronic Transactions and Security (SETS), a public-private initiative on India's information security, will launch its first product, "Web Guard" for web servers during August.

"The software product to be installed on servers prevents hackers from defacing a website and intruding into organisations through the web," SETS Executive Director Dr M S Vijayaraghavan told reporters in Bangalore.

SETS in collaboration with the Anna University-K B Chandrashekar Centre on network security at Madras Institute of Technology developed the product, which has been extensively validated by experts in the field.

"We are aiming to hit the market with the software by August. It would be directly marketed by SETS as well as through our member network," Vijayaraghavan said.

SETS which was launched last year is the brainchild of President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, which aims to protect the IT wealth of the nation.

According to conservative estimates, the IT security products business in the world is about $ 8 billion per annum with high growth rate.

The Indian IT security products and services business is estimated to touch over Rs 200 crore, Dr Vijayaraghavan said adding the potential for India was "huge" to make the country a leader in this business.
