Raipur: Accusing the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government of working on a deal to abandon the Kashi and Mathura temple issues, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on June 24 said the Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani should take up the Ram temple issue and initiate steps for formulation of a law for its construction at Ayodhya.

"If the government fails to get the legislation passed in Parliament, it should resign and seek a fresh mandate," VHP international president Ashok Singhal told reporters.

VHP would not tolerate any compromise on the issue of three temples, although 30,000 temples were destroyed in the country and 3,000 mosques were built in their place, he said.

Singhal said Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee was not associated with the Ram mandir movement, but since Advani had taken up the issue, he urged him (Advani) to take up the issue once again as it was an opportunity for him to get the confidence of the entire Hindu society.

"If without Vajpayee Advani could take out a 'rath yatra', why not he come forward this time?" Singhal asked.

"If Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) continued without fulfilling its promises then in the next elections the party could be reduced to two once again."

The VHP leader alleged that the government is involved in a deal to abandon the Kashi and Mathura temples issue. "Andar hi andar soudebazi kar rahe hai ki Kashi aur Mathura ko tyag diya jayega our Ram mandir ke bagal mein masjid banega," he said alleging VHP was kept in dark about it, which was nothing but humiliation to Hindu society.
