Surat: Surat police have arrested one more person from Mumbai in connection with the alleged extortion case involving parents of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, police said.

The Umra police have arrested Padmanathan Gopal Kotiyan, a Chembur-based hotel owner on June 24, police added.

Kotiyan, believed to be a member of the underworld don Chhota Rajan gang, was earlier arrested by Mumbai crime branch officials on June 9 for his link with Dinesh Shetty, another accused in the extortion case, as well as with the former driver of Surendra Shetty, Dilip Palsekar.

Kotiyan was also interrogated earlier by the Umra police that has registered a case against Shilpa's parents Surendra Shetty, Sunanda and a gangster for "hiring" a gangster to extort Rs 80 lakh from Praful Saris owner, allegedly payable to the actress for an advertising film that she did five years ago.

His interrogation revealed the alleged involvement of Palsekar and Dinesh Shetty in "communication" with the Malaysia-based gangster Fazlu Rehman, police added.
