Bangalore: After failing to persuade the Karnataka government to hand over the Nagappa kidnap issue to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a probe, the family of the slain Janata Dal – United (JD-U) leader on June 25 said they would be filing a writ petition in the High Court next week seeking a direction for investigation by the Central agency.

"We are filing a writ petition in the High Court next week seeking a direction to the state government to hand over the case to CBI," Nagappa's son-in-law Kiran Patel said.

The family on June 25 filed three affidavits before the one-member Judicial Commission probing the case. The other affidavits filed included 16 by the general public and one by Kollegal JD-U leader Ponnachi Mahadevaswami.

The Nagappa kidnap drama involving forest brigand Veerappan had rocked the S M Krishna government last year and the 105-day episode ended on a bloody note with the former minister's body found in a forest area under mysterious circumstances.
