Thursday, June 26 2003 06:29 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Union Urban Development Minister Anant Kumar was on June 26 appointed president of the BJP (Bharatiya Janata party) unit in Karnataka.

Senior leader Yediyurappa has been appointed chairman of the campaign committee in the state.

Kumar replaces Basavraj Patil Sedam, who had offered to resign six months back as part of party revamping.

BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu said at a press conference at the party headquarters that he has decided to accept Sedam's resignation and appoint Kumar in his place.

It was not clear whether Kumar would continue in the Cabinet or resign to take up party work.

Assembly elections are due in Karnataka along with the Lok Sabha polls in October 2004.
