BJP rules out bringing Legislation for Ram temple
Thursday, June 26 2003 21:19 Hrs (IST)
Chennai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on June 26 ruled out bringing a Legislation to build a Ram
temple at Ayodhya, as demanded by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).
"We do not want to force our allies with the Legislation" to build a Ram temple at Ayodhya, BJP president
M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters at Chennai airport.
He said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government was governed by the national agenda for
governance and the BJP would not deviate from that.
VHP should understand the BJP's position on this, he said.
Welcoming the initiative taken by the seer of Kanchi Mutt Sri Jayendra Saraswathi to resolve the
Ayodhya tangle, he said everybody involved in the issue would be involved in the negotiations. There
was no question of bypassing anybody, he said, adding that everybody would be taken into
confidence.
He said the Centre would intervene on the issue only when it was necessary.
He said there were only three ways to solve the Ayodhya issue - Legislation, negotiation and court
verdict.
If the issue was solved through negotiations, it would be a happy solution, he said.
