VHP threatens to go ahead with temple construction
Thursday, June 26 2003 10:20 Hrs (IST)
Raipur: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has threatened to go ahead with construction of the Ram
temple in Ayodhya on its own if the current Parliament failed to enact a law for this saying legislation was
the only way to solve the issue.
"The VHP would be forced to take extreme steps of intensifying the Ram temple movement if it is not
done through the legislation by Parliament and today it was discussed along with its current position in
the VHP executive body meeting," international president of VHP Ashok Singhal said.
The issue has been dragged in the court for 54 years and some Muslim organizations have threatened
to stretch that to another 25 years but the Hindu community would not wait that long, said Singhal, who
is in Raipur to attend the executive meet of VHP.
He asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to take the initiative for enacting a law for the construction of
the temple and if that falls on the floor of the house, the party should go to the public seeking absolute
mandate to enact legislation since it was the only solution.
"We do not want a Parliament which cannot formulate a law on Ram mandir and if this Parliament fails to
decide on that we will have to have a house which can take a decision on that," the VHP leader added.
