Women don't want to grab political posts: AIMC chief
Thursday, June 26 2003 20:07 Hrs (IST)
Ranchi: Women do not want to grab political posts, but only want implementation of Constitutional rights
provided to them, the All-India Mahila Congress (AIMC) president Rita Bahuguna Joshi, said on June 26.
Joshi told the Jharkhand mahila maha panchayat in Ranchi that women had never desired to overtake
men, but they would not remain mute spectators any more.
Citing examples of how the Congress-ruled states are giving preference to women in important areas,
Joshi demanded that the Arjun Munda government should form Jharkhand Women's Commission, which
would take care of women's interests.
The maha-panchayat was organised on completion of a "Nari Shakti Yatra", which toured all the 22
districts of the state under the leadership of the AIMC secretary Meera Singh and JPMC president
Pratibha Pandey.
The yatra, which took 33 days to complete, was launched to make the women aware of their rights in the
remote areas of the state.
