Srinagar: Three militants and a jawan were killed while three others were injured in an encounter in the wee hours of June 27 in Anantnag district of South Kashmir, police sources said.

Three ultras were killed during an encounter with security forces at 2 am at Damhal Hanjipora in Kulgam area of the district, the source said.

An Army jawan was killed and two others were injured during the gun battle, the sources said adding a woman was also injured in the cross-fire.

Search operations were going on and the security forces were sifting through the debris to look for arms and ammunition, they said.

They said three houses were gutted in the fire that broke out due to heavy shelling of the militant hideout by the security forces.

Meanwhile, a CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) personnel was killed and another injured at Shalimar in Srinagar. The jawan was killed by a bullet from his own service rifle, the sources said.

It was not clear whether the jawan had committed suicide or was accidentally killed, a CRPF jawan said adding senior officials of the force had rushed to the spot and were investigating the matter.
