Indore: A notorious gangster, allegedly involved in the murder of BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader Rajesh Tiwari, was killed and a police inspector was injured during an encounter in Vijay Nagar area early on June 27, police said.

Talking to reporters, IG Indore, V M Kanwar said the gangster identified as Guddu belonged to Dewas and was wanted in connection with a number of cases including murder, loot and attempts to murder.

He was also involved in the murder of Tiwari in March 2003, that had rocked the Madhya Pradesh Assembly.

After a few rounds of exchange of fire he was gunned down, Kanwar said adding that a police inspector was injured in the incident.

However, his accomplice managed to flee from the spot.

Guddu was carrying a reward of Rs 15,000 announced by IG of Ujjain, he said adding a country-made revolver and a knife was recovered from his possession.

The injured constable was admitted to the hospital, he added.
