Jammu: Chief of Army Staff General N C Vij on June 29 held a meeting with senior officials in Jammu for beefing up security around all Army establishments in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the June 28 suicide attack by militants in the city which left 12 personnel dead and seven injured.

General Vij, who arrived in Jammu on June 28 morning from New Delhi, drove straight to Sonjiwan military station, where the militants had struck, and was briefed by the GOC-in-C, Northern Command, Lt Gen Hari Prasad and General Officer Commanding (GOC), 16 Corps, Lt Gen T P S Brar, official sources said.

Vij reviewed the security set-up of Army installations in Jammu and Kashmir and called for immediate fortification of all of them including Sonjiwan camp, the sources said.

There are 27 Army camps and stations with barbed-wire fencing around them instead of brick walls, the sources said.

Later, he visited the Army hospital and met the injured Army jawans.
