Jammu: In a major success on the counter-insurgency front, Jammu and Kashmir police on June 29 arrested four top militants belonging to the banned Harkat-Ul-Jehadi-Islami (HUJI), including its supreme commander, at Basholi Morh, 95 km from Jammu, top police sources said.

The arrests were made following a check on a truck at Basholi Morh in Kathua district.

Police intercepted a truck which was coming from Punjab on Jammu-Pathankote national highway and recovered Rs 8,50,000 in Indian currency, one Chinese-made pistol, two grenades, two Russian binoculars, some documents and two fake identity cards.

The persons travelling in the truck were identified as Mohammad Amin, an Afghanistan-trained militant, who is HUJI supreme commander, Shabir Ahmed (area commander), Abdul Hamid (tehsil commander) and Farooq Ahmed. They belonged to Banihal, Qazigund and Kishtwar respectively.

Amin was carrying fake identity card in the name of Nazir Ahmed of Kulgam with his own photograph, the sources said, adding one mobile phone was recovered from Shabir Ahmed.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the four top militants were returning after surveying their targets in different cities and vital installations in Northern India during their month-long tour, the sources said.
