Core member in Godhra train carnage arrested

Ahmedabad: The Special Investigating Team (SIT) probing the Godhra train carnage, has arrested a
core member of the team that allegedly set afire S-6 bogie of Sabarmati express in 2002, official sources
said in Ahmedabad on July 1.
Shoaib Yusuf Kalandar was arrested from his residence in Signal Falia locality of Godhra on June 29
night, officials sources told reporters.
The name of Kalandar, who was absconding since almost a year, was revealed during interrogation of
another accused Habib alias Badshah Bin Yamin Vaska, they said.
Kalandar is likely to be produced in the Special POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act) court in Sabarmati
Jail in Ahmedabad on July 1 for further remand.
While the prime conspirator and main accused in the carnage Maulana Hussain Umarji was arrested on
February 6, SIT is still on a lookout for two other persons Faroukh Bhana and Salim panwala, who are
absconding.
Fifty-nine Ram Sevaks, including women and children were burnt alive when a mob torched the S-6
bogie of Sabarmati Express on February 27, triggering widespread communal riots across Gujarat.
