Ahmedabad: A Special POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act) court on July 1 "released from offence" one of the accused in Godhra train carnage Sayeed Abdul Sattar Kala, arrested from Mumbai in April 2003, prosecution sources said.

Sources said that the POTA court judge Sonia Gokani accepted the report filed under section 169 of CrPC (Criminal procedure Code) by an official of the Special Investigating Team probing the carnage, that said the team had found no evidence to prove the accused's connection with the train carnage.

Kala, who was allegedly a member of the core group instrumental in burning the S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express near Godhra railway station, was also directed to furnish a personal bond of Rs 30,000 and surety of the same amount.

The court also directed Kala to submit his permanent residence address.
