Tuesday, July 1 2003 21:58 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi: A day after arriving in New Delhi, Pakistan's High Commissioner-designate Aziz Ahmed Khan
on July 1 quickly got down to business by complying with the mandatory requirement ahead of
presenting his credentials.
Khan called on the chief of protocol (CoP) in the External Affairs Ministry P R Chakrabarty and gave him
a copy of his letter of credentials.
The actual date of presentation of his credentials to President AP J Abdul Kalam will be worked out in
due course, External Affairs Ministry spokesman told reporters.
The Pakistani envoy, who arrived in New Delhi on June 30 night after crossing over the Wagah check
point, will formally take charge of his new assignment after presenting his credentials.
In first comments to the media after entering Indian territory, Khan had said Islamabad was ready to
discuss all issues with India and hoped the stalled dialogue would be resumed "very soon".
Khan's arrival marks the first major move towards taking forward the peace process initiated by Prime
Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee in Srinagar on April 18 extending a hand of friendship to Pakistan.
