New Delhi: Refuting claim of innocence by the then Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh with regard to demolition of Babri mosque, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Giriraj Kishore on July 1 asserted that Singh had himself told him that the Babri mosque could be reached only as long as he was in the government.

Kishore told reporters, "The then Chief Minister Kalyan Singh told me that you can reach the mosque only as long I am in the government and not after that."

He said the kind of statements Singh was making these days were not proper. He is a mature politician and should not make such statements, Kishore said.

In reply to a question, he said the fact was that there was no mosque there and the karsevaks had demolished an old structure for construction of a grand and beautiful temple and such things were common everywhere.
