France keen to facilitate Indo-Pak dialogue
Friday, July 4 2003 16:37 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: The French government has reportedly expressed its keenness to bring both Pakistan and India to the negotiation table.

Diplomatic observers in Paris, France where Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf is on an official visit, were quoted as saying that President Jacques Chirac had told Musharraf that France was willing to do anything to facilitate a dialogue between Islamabad and New Delhi.

The French leadership, they said, had indicated that instead of playing a role of mediator between India and Pakistan, it may agree to play the role of a facilitator.

There seems to be a perceptible understanding between Chirac and Musharraf on this likely development, the diplomatic observers said.
