Friday, July 4 2003 10:44 Hrs (IST)

Riyadh: The most wanted Islamic militant in Saudi Arabia blew himself up on July 3 when cornered by security forces in the North of the country, security sources said.

Turky al-Dandani, who was number one on a list of 19 suspects and believed to be the mastermind behind the May 12 suicide attacks in Riyadh that left 35 people dead, killed himself in Skaka, Jawf province, the source said.

"Three of Dandani's followers were also killed in the explosion," he said, adding that two policemen were also injured.

In London, however, a Saudi Opposition group said, "Dandani and three of his companions were killed by security forces who surrounded a mosque in Skaka where they had taken refuge."
