CAS implementation extended to September 1: Prasad
Saturday, July 5 2003 20:17 Hrs (IST)

Jaipur: Information and Broadcasting Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on July 5 said implementation of the Conditional Access System (CAS) was extended till September 1 to ensure a "smooth rollover" to the new regime and will be extended to other cities after its success in the four metros.

"CAS is a progressive step, the implementation of which had been extended after discussions with different players for ensuring a smooth roll over to the new system," he told reporters.

He said CAS would revolutionise television in India by making the electronic media more "scientific, authentic and transparent".

Stating that CAS gives the right to consumers to choose channels in a friendlier way, he said, "There had been great demand for introducing CAS in different parts of the country."

Both CAS and the forthcoming Direct-To-Home (DTH) system, which was a costlier technology, can "effectively co-exist" in a vast country like India, he said.
