Section of striking TN employees to call off stir
Saturday, July 5 2003 18:20 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: A section of striking Tamil Nadu government employees is understood to have given an undertaking before a High Court judge that they were willing to call off the strike, provided the government did not resort to dismissing them from service.

The sources in JACTTEO-GEO, which gave the strike call, said that some representatives had met Justice Dinakaran at his residence on July 5 evening, "but details are still being awaited".

Leaders of the Tamil Nadu government Employees Union and some other associations are understood to have given the undertaking to Justice Dinakaran, who heard a petition filed by the Tamil Nadu Co- operative Subordinate Officials Association, challenging the July 4 ordinance, which amended certain provisions in ESMA.
