AIMPLB likely to reject Kanchi seer's proposal
Sunday, July 6 2003 12:42 Hrs (IST)
Faislabad: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), meeting on July 6 to discuss Kanchi
Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi's proposals to resolve Ayodhya tangle, is likely to reject the
formula as it talked about "donating" the disputed land to Hindus but made no mention of rebuilding a
mosque.
Highly placed Board sources told reporters that "the Board members are now considering polite words to
say no to the seer's formula".
They said the Shankaracharya's proposals favoured "donating" the disputed land to Hindus but made
no mention of building a mosque.
The Board members were also upset over the seer's remarks that there was no need for a new mosque
in Ayodhya.
The letter containing Shankaracharya's proposals was discussed yesterday itself at an informal meeting
of the Board members and it was felt that it should not be accepted, the sources said.
The members, who were agitated over the seer's remarks sharply criticised his proposals, they said.
