Cong blames PM for failure to resolve Ayodhya row
Sunday, July 6 2003 21:04 Hrs (IST)
Shimla: Congress on July 6 squarely blamed Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee for the failure to
resolve the Ayodhya dispute in the wake of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board rejecting the Kanchi
Shankaracharya's proposals.
"What I found is that the Prime Minister wanted to resolve the issue in an extraordinary manner by
involving religious leaders. Prime Minister should have first sorted out the in-house problems. Before
taking this step, adequate homework should have been done," senior party leader Pranab Mukherjee
told reporters soon after the AIMPLB announced its decision.
Stating that Vajpayee should have sorted out "in-house" problems first, he noted that "extreme
positions" were taken by some members of the Sangh Parivar before involving themselves.
