ABVP calls for boycott of CET counselling
Monday, July 7 2003 19:53 Hrs (IST)

Hubli: Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has given a call to boycott the Common Entrance (CET) counselling in Karnataka following the steep hike in fee structures for medical, dental and engineering courses in the state.

The ABVP will conduct a statewide rasta roko on July 8 to protest against the CET counselling which is commencing in Bangalore on July 10, state ABVP President, Dr M Nagaraj said.

He said the fee for medical which is Rs 1.90 lakh, for dental, Rs 1.10 lakh and for engineering Rs 36,000 every year is a "costly affair for the poor, merited middle class students who will not be able to afford it".

He said the agitation is against the "government's failure" to protect such students in the state.
