Kolkata: The US-based novelist, Barbara Taylor Bradford's counsel on July 7 claimed before the
Calcutta High Court that the producer of Sahara Entertainment's mega-serial 'Karishma-A miracle of
destiny', Akashdeep Sabir, had admitted that plots and characters were lifted from her novel 'Woman of
Substance'.
Counsel P C Sen submitted before the division bench of Justice A N Ray and Justice J Banerjee that
Sabir had admitted to this in the interview that he had given to one Pammi Somal.
Sen also submitted that after the Supreme Court set aside the division bench order, the issue of
suppression of facts cannot be raised any longer.
The counsels for Sahara, led by S S Ray, had submitted before a division bench, which had on May 12
vacated the May 7 stay on telecast of the Rs 60 crore mega-serial, that Bradford's not informing the
Calcutta High Court of having earlier moved the Bombay High Court on May 2 on the same issue,
amounted to suppression of fact.
Ray stated that the Supreme Court order on the issue, that had on May 12 upheld the May 7 stay on the
telecast of the serial, following an appeal by Bradford against vacation of the stay, had kept all
questions in the matter, including that of the Bombay HC suit, open.
