Railways launch month-long safety drive
Monday, July 7 2003 20:13 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: The Railways have launched a safety drive, which will last for a month. The new Railway Board chief R K Singh has asked general managers of zonal railways to involve officers, supervisors and cutting-edge staff in the initiative.

The main focus falls on close monitoring of drivers and effectiveness of brake-power, say the officials.

Meanwhile, Railway Minister Nitish Kumar has convened a two-day national workshop on July 11 and 12 in New Delhi on rail safety. A cross-section of ground staffs like station-masters, drivers, gang-men, points-men, loco and signaling inspectors and workshop staff will participate in it.

The recent spate of accidents has tarnished the image of the Indian Railways.
