Polls a 'golden opportunity' for BJP: AnanthKumar
Tuesday, July 8 2003 18:35 Hrs (IST)
Bangalore: The new president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka Ananth Kumar virtually
sounded the party's election bugle on July 8, asserting that the next Assembly elections offered it
a "golden opportunity" to come to power in the state.
Addressing a consultation meet attended by prominent party leaders, Kumar charged the ruling
Congress with "insensitive governance" and a "series of failures".
On the other hand, Janata parivar outfits are in disarray and a divided house as they failed to forge
unity and people are disenchanted with them, party spokesman S Suresh Kumar, who briefed the press,
quoted him as saying.
Battle-ready strategy for the party was discussed at the meet, attended among others by state executive
members, district presidents and general secretaries, national council members, Lok Sabha members,
former MPs and state legislators.
Ananth Kumar said steps needed to be taken to build a National Democratic Alliance (NDA)-type "good
governance" regime in Karnataka.
Suresh Kumar said issues regarding alliance with other parties were not discussed in the meet, where it
was resolved to strengthen the party in all the 224 constituencies.
Asked if the party felt that Ananth Kumar should spare more time for Karnataka as he is also
discharging his duty as Union Urban Development Minister, chairman of the state campaign committee B
S Yediyurappa said the former has stated he would spend four days in a week in the state.
