Sanjay Dutt granted permission to go to South Africa
Tuesday, July 8 2003 16:59 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: A special court on July 8 permitted actor Sanjay Dutt, accused in 1993 bomb blast case, to visit South Africa from July 14 to August 5 for shooting of hindi film 'Plan'.

Hearing a plea made by Sanjay's lawyer Farhana Shah, the designated judge P D Kode allowed the actor to go abroad subject to certain conditions.

Sanjay was asked to mark his presence on July 11 before leaving for South Africa and also told to appear on August 7 on his return.

The actor was warned not to maintain any contact with the absconding accused and ensure that his lawyer was present in the court during his absence.

Sanjay is facing the charge of possessing an AK-56 rifle and destroying the weapon. He has already denied the charges.

The court had on July 7 modified the charge of conspiracy framed against Sanjay and 115 others with a view to including the name of co-accused Majnu Mustaffa, brother of absconding accused Mohammed Dossa.

In a related development, the court allowed co-accused Salim Khan Durrani to visit his home town Tonk in Rajasthan till August 5. Salim Khan belongs to the royal family of the erstwhile Pakhtoon state of Tonk. He urged for permission to visit Tonk to supervise his agricultural holdings.
