India displeased with Pak demand on air links

New Delhi: India on July 9 described as "not very helpful" Pakistan seeking guarantees against unilateral
ban on overflights in future for resumption of bilateral air links and overflight facilities.
"It will not be very helpful if the two countries started asking guarantees from each other. Then we will
seek, I don't know how many guarantees from Pakistan," External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha said
when asked about reports from Islamabad that it wanted such a guarantee.
He said it was the "wrong end" to start discussions and added that "one should enter dialogue
framework with as open a mind as possible".
However, Sinha made it clear that he did not have any official word from Pakistan and had only seen
news reports of Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman comments on the issue.
"While we were ready to resume air links, Pakistan suggested that talks be held between officials of the
Civil Aviation Ministries of the two countries. We have left it to Pakistan to decide when and where these
talks should be held," he said.
