New Delhi: Demanding action against Jamaat-e-Islami leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, People's
Conference, a constituent of Hurriyat Conference, has termed him as an "ideological nightmare" for
Kashmiris and accused him of creating a "vicious" atmosphere, thus endangering its top leadership
again.
In his letter to Hurriyat chairman Abdul Gani Bhat, People's Conference representative in the amalgam
Bilal Lone claimed that Geelani had ensured that statements were issued by every possible militant
outfit.
"The threat perception of the top leadership of the People's Conference is once again very high," he
said and charged Geelani with bringing in "militancy into politics".
Stating that Geelani was an "ideological nightmare" for Kashmiris, Lone said, "His (Geelani's) statements
and postures have often harmed the Kashmiri cause...for him Kashmir is not a cause but an excuse for
pursuing some other agenda."
He said Geelani had created a similar vicious atmosphere before assassination of party chief Abdul
Gani Lone.
Lone warned that if "Geelani is not reined in", the sacrifices would be in a "great peril".
"We are convinced that the present theatre being conducted by Geelani is a part of a deal hammered
out with the Centre during his stay in jail," Lone said.
Rebutting Geelani's claim about People Conference's participation in the Assembly polls, Lone
asked, "Would Geelani explain why his daughter had seen at least two influential Central ministers and
former Chief Minister to secure his release."
