NCP to 'reconsider' stance on foreign origin issue
Thursday, July 10 2003 17:18 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on July 10 said it was willing to reconsider the foreign origin issue of Congress president Sonia Gandhi to achieve the objective of defeating "communal forces".

Welcoming the Congress stance of forging alliance with secular-minded parties to defeat "fascist forces", NCP spokesman Vasant Chavan told reporters that the party was willing to "reconsider its stance" on the foreign origin issue.

"In the event of secular forces coming to power and the Congress bagging the largest number of seats in the Lok Sabha, it will be improper for the NCP to oppose Sonia as the Prime Ministerial candidate," he said.

However, the final decision will be taken by the party national executive, Chavan added.
