Thursday, July 10 2003 15:48 Hrs (IST)

Kathmandu: The leaders of India and Pakistan will attend a South Asian summit in Islamabad in January, Foreign Secretary Kanwal Sibal announced on July 10.

The South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC), which cannot hold a summit unless all seven leaders are present, agreed to hold the next such gathering in Islamabad, Sibal said.

"The standing committee has reached a consensus to hold the summit from January 4 to 6," Sibal told reporters after a meeting of the nations' top Foreign Ministry officials.
