Sangh not to give up claim on Kashi, Mathura
Friday, July 11 2003 20:50 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi: A crucial meeting of top Sangh Parivar brass on July 11 ruled out giving up their claim on
Kashi and Mathura in return for a settlement of the Ayodhya issue even as it avoided any direct criticism
of the government.
In a resolution, the day-long meeting of the high-powered panel of Ram Mandir Nirman Andolan Samiti
also urged the Kanchi Shankaracharya not to negotiate in future "with those people who have no
respect for Hindu sentiments and leaders."
The meeting, attended among others by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief K Sudarshan and
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) supremo Ashok Singhal, set up a three-member committee headed by
former MP Mahant Avaidyanath to decide on any course of action, if necessary, during the Chaturmas
period.
VHP firebrand general secretary Pravin Togadia said that to begin with, the outfit would reach out to one
crore people spread over one lakh villages across the country and make them committed to the temple
cause.
He said the RSS chief listened to the views and concerns of the religious leaders and also extended
support to VHP's agitational programmes.
Interestingly, the meeting avoided any discussion on VHP's earlier suggestion that Prime Minister Atal
Behari Vajpayee step down for "his failure" to bring in a legislation to facilitate construction of Ram
Temple.
