BJP chides Amarinder for "politics of revenge"
Sunday, July 13 2003 17:20 Hrs (IST)

Chandigarh: BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) on July 13 extended support to beleaguered Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Prakash Singh Badal and warned the Punjab government to desist from "harassing" its leaders and those of its ally SAD.

"The only three-point programme of the Amarinder Singh government is revenge, transfer and Badal," BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu said addressing party workers after inaugurating the party office in Chandigarh.

Taking exception to Singh's statement that the law would take it's own course in Badal's case, Naidu said, "the Central government is keenly observing what is happening in Punjab. The law will take it's own course in the case of Amarinder also."

Naidu said SAD was a reliable and old partner of the BJP.

The BJP chief lambasted the state government for "violating" law and order and allegedly failing to carry out development programmes.

"There is no development taking place in Punjab. Amarinder's three-point programme of revenge, transfer and Badal cannot last long," he said.

Naidu said the Chief Minister had played a "fraud" with the people of Punjab by backtracking from his promise of providing free power to peasants.
