BHEL penetrates Taiwanese market; bags major order

Tiruchirapalli: Public sector BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited), on July 14 said it has penetrated
the Taiwanese market by bagging a Rs 41 crore order for setting up a 62.5 MW hydro turbine generator
at Bihai Hydro Electric Power Plant of Taiwan Power company (TPC).
A BHEL release said in Tiruchirapalli that execution of the project would be accomplished by its Bhopal
unit.
The order assumes significance as it was for the first time that TPC was sourcing power plant equipment
from an Indian company, the release claimed.
BHEL has already set its footprints in New Zealand, Thailand, Malaysia, Azerbaijan, Nepal and Bhutan.
The release said with a thrust on overseas business, BHEL bagged the highest ever export orders worth
Rs 1460 crore in 2002-03 fiscal, a quantum jump of nearly 32 per cent over the previous year. In the
last four years BHEL had bagged a cumulative export order of Rs 3675 crore.
