Pune: Criticising the role of Shankaracharya in the Ram Janmabhoomi issue, former union minister and Lok Janashakti Party (LJP) president, Ramvilas Paswan has said, "by indulging himself in such disputes, he was only lowering his image".

"A person of such a standing should keep himself away from such politics as the organisations like RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) and VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) have their own axe to grind," Paswan told reporters in Pune on July 13 night.

Stressing the need for an alternative front, which can counter the "communal" party like BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), Paswan said Congress should take initiative for this.

On the possible impact of the mandir issue, Paswan said, "It would have no effect as people are very wise".

Reacting on the call given by Shiv Sena for joining of Shiv Shakti and Bhimshakti, he said no Ambedkarite would like to join hands with the Sena.

Paswan said his party would launch a movement in Maharashtra from August 9 to press for their various demands and added that his party would also protest in Parliament against the growing atrocities against dalits in the country.
