French national day celebrated in Pondicherry

Pondicherry: The 214th French national day was celebrated in this Union Territory on July 14.

French Consul General Michel Seguy and the district administration officials paid homage at the war memorial in Pondicherry. Representatives from various associations of French military and civil service staff placed wreaths at the statue of 'French Soldat Inconnu' (unknown soldier).

Police played both Indian and French national anthem as part of the celebration.

There are a sizeable number of French citizens in Pondicherry and the French government runs various educational institutions in the Union Territory.
