New Delhi: Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) president Deve Gowda on July 15 lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of raking up the Ayodhya issue for electoral gain and urged non-BJP parties in National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to join hands with his party to oust BJP.

"The BJP is raising the issue of Ayodhya in order to whip up emotions and capitalise on it for the elections to the four states of Rajasthan, Chattisgarh, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh," Gowda said while addressing a youth convention of his party in New Delhi.

The former Prime Minister alleged that the BJP was raising the issue to cover up its "bad governance" of four-and-a half years.

"The BJP and its NDA allies have lost all but few of 32 by-elections to the state and Union legislature. In state elections, they could only win Gujarat after a carnage against minorities there," Gowda said.

Charging the BJP with imposing its "own agenda" on that of the NDA, Gowda asked the alliance partners of the BJP to rethink on their alliance.

"Today is not time for them to think 10 times on the alliance." he said, adding "Days are numbered for those parties who are sharing power in the NDA."
