Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh said in Bhopal on July 15 the word "Hindutva"
had nothing to do with the Hindu religion.
"The word Hindutva has got nothing to do at all with Hindu religion," the Chief Minister told reporters.
Singh said during the days of freedom struggle, Veer Savarkar had also said he was an atheist and had
pointed out that Hindutva had nothing to do with Hindu religion.
He said the biggest challenge before the Congress these days was not communalism but
fundamentalism of all kinds.
The Chief Minister said the Congress was opposed to all fundamentalists irrespective of whether they
belonged to the Hindu, Muslim or even Sikh community.
Singh said in this connection that the violence, that had taken place last year in Gujarat before the
Assembly elections, was result of Hindu fundamentalism.
"It was Hindu fundamentalism that had led to communal riots in Gujarat," he said.
The Chief Minister said similarly al-Qaida was the result of Muslim fundamentalism and added this had
also led to terrorism.
