Ahmedabad: The two-member Nanavati Commission probing into the post-Godhra communal violence
on July 15 asked the riot-victims to depose "fearlessly" without any apprehension.
Adequate security has be made to "ensure that those affected can come and depose fearlessly and
freely", justice (retd) K G Shah of the two-member commission headed by justice (retd) G T Nanavati
appointed by the Gujarat government to probe communal violence said here on the eve of hearing of
riot-affected.
The hearing, which begins on July 16, will continue till July 22, he said.
Countering statements that "police presence might instil fear among those deposing before the
commission", Justice Shah said "police presence is necessary for security measures. However,
arrangements have not been made to cause fear among those who come to depose".
Justice Shah said around 4,300 affidavits have been received by the commission from entire Gujarat in
connection to the post-Godhra communal riots and in Ahmedabad the work will be divided police station
area wise.
