Kochi: Mata Amritanandamayi was presented with the 'Honorary Citizenship of Naperville, Illinois, USA' during her programme in Chicago, according to a release from Amritanandamayi ashram in Kochi on July 17.

The release said, George Pradel, Mayor of Naperville, Illinois, while presenting the official certificate had said "by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Naperville, I proclaim that, Amma, be named an Honorary Citizen of Naperville." Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor had said, "it is a privilege to have people from other countries visit our country, and today is a special occasion. We welcome the people who temporarily make their home in our city and we appreciate the opportunity to share our culture with you and to learn about your homeland," the release added. PTI
