Bangalore: During the last 48 hours Narayana Hrudayalaya the heartthrob of poor Cardiac patients in
the sub-continent has seen it all. Normally patients and their caretakers visit this hospital on Hosur Road
Bangalore. But, on July 15 and 16 members from cross sections of Bangalore society has visited the
hospital. Visitors included media persons, bureaucrats, politicians and good Samaritans. The hospital
sent waves of news across the continents on Tuesday and Wednesday. All due to the phenomenon of
First Lahore Bus.
The picture on Thursday evening was different. Every thing appeared normal as it is. The hospital crew
was busy extending medical attention to the poor and the affluent alike. Patients from far-off places had
arrived and were waiting to meet Dr. Devi Shetty and his team to rectify coronary disorders.
The hospital hit the headlines several times during the last two days. Thanks to Noor Fathima a two-and-
half-Year old kid from Pakistan who underwent successful heart surgery on Tuesday. She is still not out
of danger one should say. Noor is on ventilation and Dr. Rajesh Sharma and team is keeping a close
watch on her condition.
While the doctors are monitoring the recuperating child, the parents of Noor Fatima are
pre-occupied with jummey raath (Pre-Friday prayers). They are not meeting anyone, Kailash Shukla,
manager of the hospital told the visiting indiainfo.com team.
After two full days of media glare the Pakistani couple have isolated themselves to perform namaz and
thank the Almighty. They are refusing even to meet the pouring dignitaries. Meanwhile, the national
telecast of the live interview of the Couple through Doordarshan has been put-off, Shukla added.
Asked about the media glare that this particular surgery attracted, Shukla says it is just another cardiac
surgery for Narayana Hrudayalaya. "We have been performing cardiac operations on patients from
several countries like UK, US, Africa, Gulf and Asia, including Pakistan, for years now and this is the first
time that such media coverage was given to a surgery. I think it is
probably because the patient happened to arrive to India through the first Lahore-Delhi bus."
Notwithstanding, the complications that are associated with a cardiac surgery, Shukla says this was
indeed a high-risk operation added to the fact that it was performed on a two-and-a-half-year old child.
When enquired about the other Pakistani child, Babar who expired just the next day after a successful
surgery on Fathima, Shukla said. "Babar's was a different case as the patient had traveled all over to
Dubai, Mumbai and then finally to Bangalore, and the change in weather had taken a toll on the young
patient, thus succumbing even before doctors could treat the child."
As of today, all the 24 exclusive beds marked for pediatric cardiac patients are full and for Narayana
Hrudayalaya it is 'business' as usual.
