Rescue operation resumes in Kullu's flood hit areas
Thursday, July 17 2003 12:14 Hrs (IST)

Shimla: Rescue operation in the flash flood-hit Shillagarh and Garsa areas of Kullu district, stalled due to bad weather and hostile terrains on July 16 night, have resumed on July 17, police sources said.

At least 35 labourers, mostly from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, were killed and 22 injured in the flash flood triggered by a cloudburst at a power project in Kullu district on July 16.

Superintendent of Police Kullu A P Singh said that intermittent heavy rains were hampering rescue and combing operations in the affected area and disruption of road links.

Bases on reports from Mandi and Bilaspur areas, Singh said no bodies had been recovered or spotted in the entire area from Garsa to Govindsagar Dam.
