Guwahati: The overall flood situation in Assam showed signs of improvement as the Brahmaputra and its
tributaries recorded a receding trend.
With cessation of rain in the catchment areas, the rivers were flowing with a receding trend although
vast tracts of land was still under water.
According to official sources, situation however continued to remain grim in Dhemaji district as the
administration was gearing up for a massive post-flood operation to provide succour to the
victims.
In Lower Assam also the situation was improving although thousands of inmates were still in the camps
and yet to return to their homes.
It would take more than a couple of days for the water to start clearing from the low-lying areas, sources
said.
According to the meteorology office, there would be negligible rain in the next 24 hours as the monsoon
was shifting Southwards.
Nearly 40 lakh people of 22 districts have been affected in the current wave of flood which has taken a
toll of 24 lives.
