Islamabad: In the first high-level contact after the resumption of full diplomatic ties, India's new High Commissioner to Pakistan Shiv Shankar Menon met Pakistan Foreign Secretary Riaz Khokhar.

"It was just a courtesy call," a Foreign Office official said on July 17.

Sources in the Foreign Office said that the Pakistani Foreign Secretary welcomed the Indian High Commissioner-designate and greeted him on his new assignment.

Menon will present his credentials to President General Musharraf after he returns from his three-nation African countries' tour. Musharraf is scheduled to reach Islamabad on July 19 from Rabat, the last leg in his visit.

Menon crossed into Pakistan on July 15 as the two countries moved to resume full diplomatic status after an 18-month hiatus in bilateral ties.

His Pakistani counterpart, Aziz Ahmed Khan, took up his post in New Delhi at the end of June and the two countries restored a bus service a few days ago.

In December 2001, diplomatic and transport links were snapped between India and Pakistan after militants attacked the Indian Parliament.
