Jaitly's defamation case against Tehelka dismissed
Saturday, July 19 2003 18:58 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: A Delhi court on July 19 dismissed a criminal defamation complaint filed by Samata Party leader Jaya Jaitly against the Tehelka news portal chief executive officer (CEO) Tarun Tejpal for allegedly linking her name to the Armsgate scandal.

"No case is made out against the accused (Tejpal) and the proceedings against the accused are dropped," Metropolitan Magistrate Gulshan Kumar said dismissing the application of Jaitly.

Reacting to the order, Jaitly's counsel Amit Nayak said they would file an appeal before the Sessions Court.

"We have not read the order and after going through it we will file the appeal," he said.

Jaitly had filed the complaint against Tejpal allegedly for showing her in bad light by dragging her name into the alleged scandal.

The Samata Party leader in her complaint had submitted that the statements displayed on the Tehelka Website were "totally false" and had denied that she misused office or indulged in corruption or has "ever received supposed arms dealers and middle men or accepted any sum of money, including Rs 2 lakh in exchange as alleged by the portal".

The article was displayed on the Website on February 26 last year accusing Jaitly of misusing her office and indulging in corruption.
