Sonia is a 'leader' of foreign origin and values: BJP
Sunday, July 20 2003 12:13 Hrs (IST)
Raipur: Taking strong exception to Congress' remarks questioning Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's
competence to lead the nation because of his age, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on July 20 said it
reflected the "foreign psyche" of the main Opposition.
In a statement party general secretary Pramod Mahajan said Indian culture respected age, wisdom,
experience and statesmanship and the remarks of Congress exposed its mindset.
Mahajan also took the opportunity to take a dig on Sonia Gandhi saying the party has not only imposed
on itself a "reader" of foreign origin but also foreign values.
Congress spokesman Jaipal Reddy had on July 19 questioned "ageing octogenarian" Vajpayee's
competence to lead the nation saying his "advancing years and sinking health need more time for rest".
