Woman, child burnt alive for dowry in UP

Gorakhpur: In a gruesome dowry killing, a 25-year old woman was burnt alive with her one-year-old child on her lap allegedly by her husband and in-laws at a village in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur district, police sources said.

The first information report (FIR) lodged on July 20 in connection with the incident at Alipur village alleged Suneeta and her child were set on fire on July 19 night after kerosene was sprinkled on them by her husband Santosh, his father Brahm Deo and mother besides his uncle and two sisters, for dowry.

Suneeta and her child were rushed to the Medical College where they succumbed to burns, the sources said.

The police arrested Suneeta's father-in-law Brahm Deo and his brother on the charge of dowry killing while the other accused have since been absconding.
