Monday, July 21 2003 04:44 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: Tesco, the largest retail chain in the UK, announced on July 21 it is moving 350 highly skilled jobs in information technology to India and setting up a new high tech development centre in Bangalore.

The firm announced in a statement in Bangalore the creation of around 3,500 new jobs in several different areas, which includes transfer of 350 highly skilled positions in IT to India.

To support the growing areas and the rest of the business, Tesco is also announcing the development of a new high tech centre focused on IT and developing common business support processes, Tesco India Managing Director G Shankar said.

The centre would be located in Bangalore, where Tesco already has a non-food sourcing team. It would be operational by the middle of 2004, the statement said.
